The Raiders Men’s Soccer team gave first year head coach Mark Lee, what every new coach dreams of — a win in their first match! The Raiders opened the 2012 campaign with a solid 3-2 victory over crosstown rival Tacoma CC, at the NWAACC Friendlies, hosted at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila. Freshman Matt Solis scored two goals for the Raiders, including the game winner midway through the second half. Tyler Himmelberger opened the scoring for Pierce with a goal in the 14th minute. Christian Rath picked up an assist for the Raiders. Goalkeeper Andrew Anderson was credited with six saves on the day.
“We saw some good things on the field,” Coach Lee commented after the match, “and we saw some things that definitely need work. All in all, it was a good opening outing for the boys.”
The Raiders return to Starfire on Wednesday for the conclusion of the NWAACC Friendlies, taking on Spokane CC at 10:30 a.m. Pierce opens their home schedule this Sunday, when they host the Hawks of Columbia Basin, at 1:00 p.m., at Heritage Recreation Center.
