The Raider Volleyball team wrapped up the second week of their West Division schedule with a convincing sweep of the Red Devils, on the road in Longview, Wednesday night. It took a 6-1 opening set deficit to get the Raiders’ road kinks out of their system, as they finished strong for a 25-15 final score. The Red Devils put up a good fight in sets 2 & 3, but lost both to the Raiders, 25-23, and 25-21.
Sophomore Dori Smith led Pierce’s balanced offensive attack, recording 7 kills, with three Raiders pitching in for 5 kills apiece — Natimia Barker-Doss, Richelle Carel, and Annie Ferris. Setter English Bryant recorded a match-high 26 assists, while Richelle Carel dropped in 3 service aces.
The Raiders improved their league record to 2-1, good for 3rd place in the West Division, behind Highline CC and Green River CC (both at 2-0). Their sweep of Lower Columbia marks their second straight 3-set sweep over a division opponent, as they beat Centralia, 3-0 last Friday night at home. The Raiders have this Friday night off, and prepare for a tough week ahead, as they host the Clark Penguins on Wednesday (10/3), and the Gators of Green River on Friday (10/5). Start times for both matches are at 7:00 p.m.
