Raider Baseball crashes the Polls!

Filed under: Uncategorized — duncan stevenson at 10:30 pm

Following a 4-game sweep of Grays Harbor to open the Western Region league schedule, the Raiders were rewarded with two milestone recognitions.  The Raiders made a rare appearance on the April 4 NWAACC Coaches Poll, showing at a program best-ever #3 Ranking.  This marks the highest ranking ever by a Pierce Baseball team in the 15 year history of the Coaches Poll.  Despite an outstanding 11-3 pre-season record, the Raiders had been overlooked in the NWAACC’s pre-season poll – receiving no votes.  The wins over Grays Harbor, gave the Raiders a perfect 4-0 record in the early going, improved the team’s overall record to 15-3, and affirmed what many people were thinking at the end of last season — new head coach Mike Nadeau has been quietly building Pierce Baseball into a contender.  Led by a sophomore laden pitching staff that looks to be one of the best in the NWAACC, the Raiders have turned up the offense, and are providing solid defense, in a balanced attack that looks to put the team in contention for a berth the NWAACC Championships in May.

The Raiders #3 ranking on the NWAACC poll led to a first-ever Top 25 ranking on the ABCA’s Pacific Association Division Poll.  The poll, which ranks all community and junior college baseball programs in Washington, Oregon, and California, placed the Raiders at a lofty #12.

The Raiders return to action this weekend, with two doubleheaders against Centralia.  Pierce hosts the Trailblazers on Saturday, at Mt. Tahoma High School, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.  The team travel to Centralia on Sunday for day 2 of the weekend series.
