Natimia Doss, the powerful outside hitter for the Raider Volleyball team, has been selected the West Region Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7 of the NWAACC volleyball season.  Doss, known around the NWAACC for her thunderous attacks at the net, has been one of the major offensive forces for Coach Doug Carlson and the Raider squad since the beginning of the season.  Recently selected to the All-Tournament Team at the West Region Crossover Tournament, hosted by Pierce College, Doss has caused fits for opposing teams trying to slow down the Raiders attack.  Carlson calls Doss “a fine captain and team leader, and is a dynamic leaper and hitter.”

Raider Volleyball hosts Western Region Crossover Tournament – Day 1 Results

Filed under: Volleyball — duncan stevenson at 9:02 pm

Day 1 of the Western Region Crossover Tournament was a day filled with great volleyball action, as Pierce College proudly served as the host site for the mid-October classic.  The field of 8 teams featured 4 of the top 9 teams in the NWAACC, led by top-ranked Linn-Benton, #3 ranked Blue Mountain, #5 ranked Walla Walla, and #9 – Clackamas.  The teams were divided into two pools of 4; Pool A – Blue Mountain, Clackamas, Everett, and Pierce; and Pool B – Edmonds, Linn-Benton, Lower Columbia, and Walla Walla.  Competition was extremely tight in Pool A, with 3 teams finishing with identical 2-1 records, resulting in the sets won/lost tie-breaker to determine seeding into Saturday’s championship play — #1 seed will be Clackamas (5-2), #2 – Blue Mountain (4-2), and #3 – Pierce (4-3).  Everett is the #4 seed, finishing 0-3.  In Pool B Linn-Benton is #1 (3-0), Walla Walla is #2 (2-1), Lower Columbia is #3 (1-2), and Edmonds is #4 (0-3).  For complete match details and Day 2 bracket pairings go to www.nwaacc.org

The host Raider squad had a great day, defeating Everett in the tournament opener, 2-0 (25-11, 25-20).  They lost a tough second round match to a very tall Blue Mountain, 0-2 (18-25, 16-25), and finished their opening day play with an upset of Clackamas, 2-1 (28-30, 26-24, 15-12).  The Raiders played their best volleyball of the season as their all-freshmen squad continues to mature into a formidable force in the West Region playoff race.
