Wondering What an UnConference Looks Like? Join Us March 31

Planning to attend the Adjunct Faculty In-service on March 31?

Get ready for a new learning experience in an unconventional workshop method. We’ll be creating our own agenda live, when the day begins, using the “unconference” method of professional learning and engagement.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, an unconference is defined as:

A loosely structured conference emphasizing the informal exchange of information and ideas between participants, rather than following a conventionally structured program of events.

The unconference format can help do many things that a structured agenda may not handle so well:

  • Build community and relationships.
  • Helps solve problems.
  • Unleashes innovation and creativity.
  • Deepens learning and application of the new learning.
  • Provides highly interactive and relevant content.

Consider the following 4 Rules of UnConference, by Diane Gage Lofgren:

  • Rule one, whoever shows up are the right people.
  • Rule two, whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
  • Rule three, whenever it starts is the right time.
  • The fourth and final rule is, it’s over when it’s over.

The beautiful thing about these rules is they give participants the freedom needed to come up with creative and engaging ideas and solutions. At the end of the unconference we will convene once again as a large group and report out key takeaways from each breakout session, giving all participants the ability to learn, not only from the sessions attended but also from other sessions. All participants will walk away with new tools and ideas to take back and implement into their work immediately.

What do you have questions about, as it relates to your role as an adjunct faculty member? What great ideas do you want to share and expand on? What do you want to explore with your colleagues? Please send your session ideas to CEAL@pierce.ctc.edu   Bring your ideas for sessions on March 31. We’ll create the agenda that morning, based on what is important to you.
