Applying the QM Rubric – Online and F2F Training Still Available

The Center for Engagement and Learning is reminding all online and hybrid instructors of upcoming dates for  “Applying the Quality Matters Rubric” (APPQMR) workshops through Pierce College. These workshops are free to all Pierce College faculty and meet the QM training requirements for teaching online or hybrid courses.

Total training time for F2F courses is 7.5 hours; online total training time is approx. 22 hours.

New! 3 Week Online Workshop Option:

This special online session is offered in cooperation with Tacoma Community College. This extended session covers the same APPQMR content found in the two week online workshop while allowing participants more time to complete activities and discussions. 10 spaces in the workshop are available for Pierce faculty who want to complete the APPQMR training. Two certified QM online facilitators will conduct the workshop activities.

May 19 through June 9, 2015

Quality Matters offers the APPQMR training online several times a month.

  • Each course is 2 weeks in length, facilitated by a certified QM trainer.
  • Includes discussion forums, quizzes, and exploratory assignments; participants can expect to spend about 10-11 hours per week in the workshop – approx. 20 hours total
  • Satisfies the requirement for Pierce College instructors who teach online or hybrid courses.*

The State Board has a limited number of free seats for each college to offer to faculty. You must sign up through Pierce College to attend these trainings. Please contact the Pierce College eLearning department for more information or to get signed up for one of these 2-week online courses.

This training is QM’s flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and the process of using the QM Rubric to review online courses. Quality Matters is both a tool and a process for ensuring online course quality and emphasizes faculty-centered continuous course improvement.

These workshops are free to all Pierce College faculty and meet the QM training requirements for teaching online or hybrid courses.* Total training time is 7 hours and workshops are offered in 1-day and 2-day formats.

If you cannot attend the in-person workshops, there are workshops online! Quality Matters offers the training online several times a month.

  • 2 weeks, facilitated by a certified QM trainer.

  • Participants who successfully complete the workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion from QM.

Do not sign up for this online training through the QM website. The State Board has a limited number of free seats for each college to offer to faculty – please contact CEAL or the Pierce College eLearning department for more information or to sign up for these online APPQMR training workshops. 

*Per the Pierce College Negotiated Agreement, all faculty who teach fully online and hybrid courses must complete this training by the end of the 2014-2015 academic year. Both in-person and online options are offered a variety of times throughout the academic year. Check the CEAL calendar for upcoming Applying the QM Rubric Workshop training dates. If you teach online and you are not sure you have completed this requirement, please contact the Pierce College eLearning department to verify your training status.

Fully Online Applying the Quality Matters™ Rubric Training

QM_ProgramDid you miss our in-person “Applying the Quality Matters Rubric” training on September 19 at the Puyallup campus?  Do not despair because starting October 16, Olympic College and Cascadia Community College will be offering a 100% fully online QM training.  This two-week training will take place from October 16 to November 4 and will allow participants to:

  • Learn to use and apply each of the QM principles and standards to your own course.
  • Participate in a peer-driven review process dedicated to continuous quality improvement in online and hybrid course design.
  • Share in a collaborative learning approach with faculty colleagues from another college.

The training will be facilitated by Certified APPQMR trainers Laurie Adamson (Olympic College) and Brandy Long (Cascadia Community College).  The cost is only $25 dollars and your registration fees will be invoiced directly to Pierce College. As a participant, you are expected to spend 8-10 hours per week for successful completion.

  • Online Workshop May 1-May 20.  This session is 100% online and 2+ weeks long (expect to spend 8-10 hours per week to successfully complete).
  • In-Person Workshop June 23 & June 24 1-4:30 PM at Pierce College Puyallup.  This is a 2-part workshop, totaling of 7 hours.

Welcome to the first post from our new blog! And fortunately we have some news for faculty who are interested in taking the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric training. As you may know, this particular training is part of the Negotiated Agreement for those teaching online and hybrid courses, and we are on track to provide both in-person and online options for the academic year.

First up is the in-person training workshop scheduled for Monday November 11, 2013.  More details:
