<p>Job Summary:<br />
This is a mid-level veterinary technician position, and works both independently and under direct supervision. Veterinary Technicians perform various duties to facilitate and support the work and research of the veterinarians, study directors, and clients by completing a variety of animal health activities in the areas of medicine, surgery, and drug therapy. As a team, the vet services staff is responsible for the treatment of all on-site ill and injured animals, and for the fulfillment of the preventive medicine program as determined by the Attending Veterinarian.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:<br />
•	Provides nursing care for all medical cases within the facility, under the guidance of the staff veterinarians and senior level technicians.<br />
•	Performs most diagnostics and screening tests, to include but not be limited to: body weights, BCS, Tb testing, malarial screens, hemoccult testing, urine dipstick analysis, fecal floatation, swab sample collection, blood collection, and others at the request of the veterinarians and/or more senior level technicians.<br />
•	Performs routine animal procedures, including animal handling and restraint of rodents, handling of NHP within the home cage, sedation, delivery of medications via the IM, SQ, topical, and PO routes, assessment of vital signs (TPR) on sedated animals, shaving of animals and preparation for surgical procedures, bandage application, basic wound care, and assessment of all clinical signs of animals on treatment or under sedation.<br />
•	Performs some advanced procedures under the supervision of veterinarians or senior level technicians, to include but not be limited to: fluid therapy, including administration of IV fluids, anesthetic monitoring and induction, OG admin of meds, EE treatment where appropriate, laceration repairs and tail or digit amputations, advanced wound care and bandaging, dental cleanings and basic extractions, euthanasia and confirmation of death, and preparation of animals/surgical assistance for major surgery (IV catheterization,  aseptic technique, and proper provision of supplies to the surgeon when needed).<br />
•	Performs some procedures on unsedated animals or may provide some restraint for unsedated animals when required, usually under the supervision of the veterinarians or senior level technicians.<br />
•	Performs post-exposure protocols on NHP.<br />
•	Performs basic cleaning and preparatory procedures within the animal procedure and technical staffing areas, including cleaning medical instruments, wrapping surgical packs for autoclaving, cleaning the surgical suite or procedure area after animal activity, and others at the request of the veterinarians and/or more senior level technicians.<br />
•	Performs dose calculations for medications to be given based on initial orders from a veterinarian or as per SOP or study protocol, and is responsible for ordering controlled substances from the pharmacy for planned procedures.<br />
•	Performs routine QC on all paperwork and performs computer entry and/or data retrieval as appropriate, to include scheduling of departmental tasks where appropriate.<br />
•	Shares inventory and ordering responsibilities for supplies used by the department<br />
•	Shares responsibility for routine departmental cleaning and prep procedures, such as instrument care, pack wrapping, procedure room and procedure cart cleaning.</p>
<p>Requirements:<br />
•	BA/BS, Licensed Veterinary Technician LVT, completion of a 2 year Veterinary Technician program preferred.  Equivalent combination of experience and education may substitute.<br />
•	2-4 years animal handling and medical/veterinary experience is required. Research experience is preferred.<br />
•	This position requires ALAT certification, and is expected to pursue LAT certification. WA State Veterinary Technician License preferred. Equivalent combination of experience and education may substitute.<br />
•	Medium to advanced  level computer skills.<br />
•	Requires general reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.  The ability to quickly understand and act on complex instructions delivered either verbally or in writing, and the ability to communicate either verbally or in writing with a wide variety of individuals in a professional, respectful, and clear manner.<br />
•	Requires the ability to accurately calculate doses, using algebraic equations.<br />
•	Continual Good Laboratory Practice training and training on applicable procedures and SOPs within the department. This job description requires a level 3 for all routine procedures. Continuing education is required as needed to maintain licensure status.<br />
•	Basic anesthetic monitoring and surgical prep skills, mid-level animal handling and procedural skills, and a basic understanding of general medical principles and practices.</p>

SVS focuses on collaborative medicine where teams of experts work together under one roof to combine their medical expertise, skills, and experience to provide the best treatment for their patients.  SVS offers specialty care in Cardiology, Emergency, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Radiology, Oncology, Pathology, and Surgery.<br />
Our internal medicine department provides services Monday through Friday.  Our internal medicine staff includes two internists, two lead veterinary technicians, and a support staff of veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and a referral coordinator.  A lead veterinary technician in our internal medicine department utilizes their technical skills to the fullest while supporting the team environment.  Our leads assist in managing the staff of one internist and play an integral role in coordinating patient and client care.<br />
Candidates must have 3 years’ experience as a small animal veterinary technician, with experience working in a specialty hospital preferred, and have experience with managing internal medicine cases and procedures.  Candidates must have experience with team leadership. A current Washington state LVT license is required and Specialty certification in internal medicine is preferred.<br />
Hours: Full time, Tuesday- Friday 8am-6pm.<br />

Steamboat is currently seeking a part- to full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to work weekends and pick-up shifts.  The ideal candidate must have experience in medication administration, surgery prep, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, recovery, dental prophy&#8217;s, blood draws, IV catheter placement, and restraint.  We are looking for experienced, dedicated individuals with great communication skills and a commitment to high quality animal care.<br />

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sunset Hill Veterinary &amp; Rehabilitation Center is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced licensed veterinary technician.  We are a privately owned, small animal practice with a specialty in rehabilitation.  We are located in beautiful Ballard just minutes from downtown Seattle.  Our open floor plan allows for lots of natural light and our back deck has water views!</p>
<p>We rely on the competency of our technicians and the manner in which he/she interacts with patients and clients.  We are looking for a friendly, outgoing, detail-oriented technician.  We use our technicians to their fullest extent so proficiency in technical skills is important.  A very short list of responsibilities includes: drawing blood &amp; urine samples, take radiographs, perform dental prophylaxis, client communication, and surgical prep &amp; assisting.  Our expectation is that our technicians are willing and able to perform the tasks listed on the State of WA Animal Health Care Tasks.</p>
<p>Days and hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 7:30am – 6:30pm and Saturday 7:45am – 4:45pm; off on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.  Salary and benefits are competitive within the veterinary field.  </p>
