Job Description: Under general supervision, conduct laboratory animal care, with the focus associated with animal health support duties according to standards set forth by the Guide for the Care & Use of Laboratory Animals (the Guide). Perform health examinations on, and administer medications and treatments to, animals under the direction of a veterinarian. Help maintain full accreditation status with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). Oversee animal (rodent) import and export transfers between other institutions and Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI), including the operation of the SCRI quarantine area. Provide animal-related training to research staff and coordinate Research needs. The schedule for this position may vary and may include weekend work.
Requirements: Required Education/Experience: – High School graduate or equivalent. – Graduation from a two year veterinary program. – A current licensure, registration, or certification in Veterinary Technology in at least one state. Required Credentials: – Obtain State of Washington License as Veterinary Technician (LVT) within 1 year of employment. Preferred: – Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a medical, biological, or related field. – American Assn. of Laboratory Animal Science ALAT, LAT or LATG certifications. – Experience with rodent colony production techniques and maintenance. – Experience in standard operating procedures, design and implementation. – Surgical experience with rabbits, swine and/or canines, including survival surgical experience and maintaining a survival surgery suite.

We are a busy practice looking for the right licensed veterinary technician.  Although we are situated in a rural setting, we are very progressive in our medicine and equipment.  Offering; laser surgery, laser therapy, digital radiology and dental x-rays, to name a few.  The right applicant would be self motivated and self reliant, open and willing to learn as well as lead, be confident in their skills and abilities, communicate well with doctors, clients, team members and management, be flexible, reliable and have a positive attitude as well as have an interest in helping the hospital continue to grow.  The position is a full time position, we are not looking to hire for someone “for now” rather the “right fit”, someone that is able to adapt to the ever changing environment around them without getting frustrated or overwhelmed.  Someone that enjoys their work, can laugh and be comfortable with their team, yet can be serious and focused when required.  Salary will be discussed and based on experience.

The Auburn Valley Humane Society is a private 501(c)3 non-profit, limited admission animal shelter located in Auburn, WA. We opened 3 short years ago and assist over 2200 animals annually maintaining 97% live release rate. AVHS provides community programs including S/N assistance, education & outreach, senior food bank, pets of domestic violence and much more. AVHS is dedicated to providing shelter, quality care and love for all the lost, mistreated and abandoned animals in Auburn and utilizes all available resources to ensure each animal is placed into a loving and forever home. LVT duties include surgical assistance, dental care, administering and monitoring anesthesia, animal welfare rounds, volunteer and veterinary assistant management, animal intake exams, assistance with animal behavior evaluation, modification and adoption counseling. As a Licensed Veterinary Technician in our hospital you are the integral team member to the quality patient care we deliver. This position offers the opportunity for the right technician to not only work with our patients but also care for injured wildlife that is brought into South Sound Critter Care Wildlife Rescue, whom we provide medical services to for various species of wildlife.

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a small animal veterinary practice, preferred

  • Ability to take radiographs, induce anesthesia, and dental prophylaxis
  • Ability to augment client services via discharge appointments or other Tech appointments
  • Assist in maintaining medical inventory and ordering hospital supplies
  • Maintain medical standards by supervising staff assistants for all medically related tasks
  • Able to stand for long periods, lift at least 50 pounds and work 8 hour shifts
  • Able to work most Saturdays
  • Prior experience with exotics and natural wildlife is preferred but will train an interested candidate

This position is Full-Time with scheduling between 36 – 40 hours per week and will be shared with our sister hospital Renton Veterinary Hospital in Renton. Licensed Team Members are eligible for health benefits on 1st of the month following hire date including Medical (Paid by Hospital for Team Member), Dental (paid by Team Member) and PTO after 6 months, matching retirement fund, Holiday pay (even your Birthday off!), license renewals, continuing education allowance and discounted veterinary care for your animal(s).
