South Sound College Fair: Explore Opportunities in Public Education

Explore the tremendous range of educational programs and services offered by more than a dozen public colleges and universities in the South Puget Sound on Saturday, January 24, 2004, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the University of Washington, Tacoma, cosponsored by Pierce College, Tacoma Community College, Highline Community College and other local community colleges.

Whether you are in high school, you’re the parent of a K-12 student, or you’re an adult considering returning for a bachelor’s or master’s degree, the South Sound College Fair will help you explore ways to reach educational and career goals. Take up to four free workshops offered on everything from improving study skills, to paying for school, to transferring credits toward a bachelor’s degree, to taking the GRE. There will even be entertainment.

Activities at the event are free. Everyone is welcome.

You can talk to representatives from every public Washington college and university offering programs in the South Sound, including UWT, Tacoma Community College, Pierce College, Green River Community College, Highline Community College, Olympic College, South Puget Sound Community College, Central Washington University, Western Washington University, Eastern Washington University, The Evergreen State College, and Washington State University.

Park at the Tacoma Dome Station for free and take Link Light Rail to the Union Station platform. Explore the bustling UW Tacoma retail and museum district, and set a course for your future, at the South Sound College Fair.

Complete list of changes and accomodations due to weather closures

The following changes have been made to district procedures due to the late start of Winter Quarter 2004. Thanks to everyone — students, faculty and staff — for your patience!

Financial Aid:

1) Signature sheets required for all, full-time students need a minimum of 10 credits of courses signed to pick up checks from Jan 8 through 12, 2003.
2) At Fort Steilacoom, checks will be issued from the cashiers’ windows, rather than upstairs.

Bookstores:

Bookstores at Puyallup and Fort Steilacoom will be open until 5:00 pm tomorrow, Friday January 9. Our normal Friday hours (7:45 am – 3:00 pm) will resume next week.

Registration:

1) Students can register without instructor signatures through Monday, January 12.
2) The last day for a 100% refund will be Wednesday, January 14th.

All other key registration dates will remain the same:

Friday, January 16: last day to add classes with instructor signatures and last day to withdraw without class appearing on your transcript
Friday, January 23: last day for a 50% refund
Thursday, February 19: last day to withdraw; continuous entry registration ends

Changes to Winter Quarter 2004 deadlines due to weather closures

Due to the closures of January 5 – 7, 2004, the following deadlines have been extended:

  • Last day to add classes without instructor signature is now January 12.
  • Last day for a 100% refund is now January 14.

We do not anticipate any other changes, but if there are any, you’ll see them here and on the academic calendar!

Classes at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom and Pierce College Puyallup are open on Thursday, January 8. Please drive carefully.
