Pierce Web manager Elaine Nelson
selected to present at national conference
Pierce College Web manager Elaine Nelson has been selected as a presenter for a prestigious national conference of higher-education Web professionals this fall in Rochester, N.Y. She will present the results of an assessment project that evaluated the success of the Pierce College Web site as a resource for students.
The 2004 HighEdWebDev Conference, scheduled for Oct. 10-13, is sponsored by the Higher Education Web Professionals Association (HighEdWeb) and hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. The purpose of the annual conference is to present the best of both national and regional innovations for the future of Web development in higher education, organizers said.
“We spend so much time creating Web sites and services to help students achieve their goals,” Nelson said in her proposal abstract. “How do we know whether our efforts are bearing fruit?”
Nelson’s presentation will showcase the assessment process that she and her colleagues at Pierce developed to determine the effectiveness of the Pierce College Web site as a resource for students. Her presentation will outline techniques that were used for evaluation, the assessment process, how the results are affecting the future
development of the Pierce Web site, and how to fit assessment activities and
ongoing improvement into the site life cycle.
“I’m thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to share our project with colleagues at HighEdWebDev,” Nelson said.
