Former astronaut shares the wonders of space
Former astronaut Dr. Bonnie Dunbar gave a compelling presentation Oct. 21, covering a wide spectrum of space. She talked about how seemingly easy it was for a girl growing up in Outlook, Wash., to have big dreams of becoming an astronaut. Everything was possible, from her perspective, looking at the Milky Way from her front porch.
The images she presented to the audience from space were just as remarkable: detailed photos from the inside of a shuttle, action shots of the shuttle docking with the space station, and once-in-a-lifetime images of earth from above.
Dunbar described the future of space exploration for the United States as precarious, with Congress set to slash NASA’s budget. She said she is hoping future generations rekindle the passion for science education to help regain this country’s competitive edge.
