Featured artist appears Wednesday at Fort Steilacoom Fine Arts Gallery
On Wednesday, March 6, William Turner, the featured artist of the exhibit, “Conversation with the Elders,” will give a lecture and appear at a reception in the gallery.
Turner merges his abstract style with classic themes in a series of acrylic on canvas paintings in the exhibit.
“I like his work because there’s a rich color usage, and kind of a clever humor that accompanies his pieces,” said Pierce College Art Professor Dave Roholt, who selected Turner for the showing. “It’s interesting to see how he is responding to canonized artists, but mixing it with a more contemporary feel.
“I think it’s fun to see how he makes things that are inherently old, new again.”
Turner holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, painting, from University of Puget Sound, and a Master of Fine Arts, painting, from University of Washington. He has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout Washington state and several in Las Vegas, New York City and Tempe, Ariz.
