Impacts of Federal Government Shutdown

shutdownAs the government’s partial shutdown continues, most colleges across the country are doing business as usual.

Pell Grants and Perkins Career and Technical Education funds will continue operations as will most operations of the Direct Student Loan program.  Information is still being gathered on other federal programs, such as Workfirst and ABE federal grants to know what those impacts will be.

National staff that work for the Federal Department of Education including such programs as TRIO, GEARUP and Title III are not available during the shutdown to provide technical assistance. However this should not affect disbursement of funds, nor will it affect past grants.  Many of the local staff are forward-funded and are continuing their services.

The Pierce College Military Program at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is operating on its standard schedule.  Classes are still in session and services are available during standard business hours. However, there are impacts to some Active Duty Service members and spouses.  Please click here for more information.

Until the shutdown is resolved there will be uncertainty at the federal government level and we will continue to keep you posted as more information becomes available.
