Pierce ranked 14th ‘Best for Vets’ two-year college in the nation
Military Times named Pierce College the 14th “Best for Vets” two-year college in the nation, as part of its annual ranking of U.S. higher education. Schools were selected based on responses from about 600 schools to a 150-question survey of their complete offerings for veterans. Military Times made the announcement Nov. 11 to coincide with Veteran’s Day.
The Best for Vets project evaluates factors that make an institution a good fit for military veterans, including service member enrollment, percentage of tuition covered by the GI Bill and availability of specific programs to help service members. The extensive evaluation process also factors in statistics commonly used to track student success and academic quality, including retention rates, graduation rates and student-faculty ratio.
Key factors contributing to the high Pierce College ranking include having a large number of veteran students, the high ranking of staff support for veterans, the Veterans Center of Excellence and the robust Military Program on JBLM.
“Providing the best possible military educational opportunities is among our highest priorities at Pierce College, and we’re pleased that our efforts have been recognized on a national scale,” says Dr. Michele L. Johnson, chancellor of Pierce College.
“We will continue to research and implement the most useful and innovative services to help veterans transition to future careers,” she adds.
