Meet Kathy Bressler, Class of 2014 Graduation Speaker
This year’s Class of 2014 Commencement will feature words of wisdom from Kathy Bressler, president of St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood. She has steadily climbed the ranks of the Franciscan Health System since starting in 1990 as a nurse manager at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
Today, as president of St. Clare, she is responsible for the daily operations of the hospital as well as strategic planning and development, physician relations and financial performance. She is also responsible for women’s and children’s services, perioperative services and mental health services across Franciscan Health System.
Bressler received her Master of Nursing degree with a concentration in Community and Leadership from the University of Washington Tacoma in 2000. As a Clinical Faculty member for UW, she has made substantial contributions to the UW nursing program through her expertise and desire to pass on her experience in leadership to nursing students.
She is as much of a leader in the community as she is in her professional life. She has been an active supporter in the fight to end breast cancer, and was recently named the Board President of Susan G. Komen’s Puget Sound affiliate. She’s currently gearing up for her seventh Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk, where she will walk a total of 60 miles to raise money for breast cancer research.
Bressler is also a member of the Northwest Organization of Nurse Executives, the American Nurses Association and the recipient of numerous awards for community service.
Hear Bressler speak during the commencement ceremony on Friday, June 13 at the Tacoma Dome. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
