Why do you think people would be truthful? They have no idea what the repercussions might be for this label on their college application. I’m sure a student poll on preferred campus activities and services would be a better reflection of what changes the LGBT students would like to see. Knowing their sexual identity does not give insight into their needs. Your goal in compiling sexual identities linked directly to a student’s name is an invasion of privacy. You claim “The purpose of collecting this data is to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all demographics of students.”–BUT HOW? Asking for such personal info with such a vague reason for it is ridiculous.
